This Side of Paradise: American Artists of the Paris Salon

Following World War I, a “Lost Generation” of American artists came of age as expatriates in Europe. Prompted by favorable currency exchange rates and a growing disbelief in the American dream, the “Americans in Paris moment” had arrived and a rising Modernist movement influenced generations of artists and writers, including Ezra Pound, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, and artist and OMAA founder Henry Strater. Through a series of paintings, photographs, rare and illustrated books and archival materials, this installation traces the historic moment and dynamic union between the arts and letters. This exhibition is made possible by Kennebunk Savings Bank and is supported in part by Huston and Company and by Steve Moss of Araby Rug Galleries.
